Hey Everyone:
Sorry for the lack of posts. My scrapbookers are a little quiet these days which in turn tends to make me quiet.
Do tell why you are all quiet? Not scrapbooking? No time? Lost the desire or passion? What is it? Where are MY scrapbookers?
Last week was a pizza crop--just Velma and I but we had a lovely evening, chatting and scrapbooking with way lots of space!
Here's what I made...It's using all Abbey Road papers and embellishments and could be a real cute book to record trip memories or as gift for someone. I'm debating on doing it as a class. The pages are even made from the papers, with a black chipboard cover and binding using the Bind-it-all machine. Anyone interested?
The front cover is black chipboard with a square of orange paper and a selection of coordinating cardstock embellishments
I added a little journal block and some embellishments on the inside of the cover.
The first page was cut from a shaped Abbey paper. I doubled up the papers for the pages because I like my pages to have a little more weight. Abbey is a beautiful weight to begin with so doubling makes it really nice to handle. Don't those little corners make the cutest accents. You could cut little triangles out of any paper when doing layouts. People tend to think they need birthday cakes for birthday pages, ducks for baths etc. You don't! Just make some fun embellishments like corners, circles or whatever in colours that match the mood! Bright primary colours for birthdays. Purples, oranges, blacks for Halloween, pastels for Easter, blues for water pictures--you get it, right?
Know how to use overlays? Overlays are those clear plastic decorative items. I cut the one on the left page here to fit the little mat and just glued the bottom and two sides down with Glossy Accents--love Glossy Accents--it dries clear and you don't even see it. And it sticks! The tag then just slips into the pocket. The little trees, the bike and the wavy green line along the bottom are on the overlay. I also inked the edges because I wanted you to SEE the overlay so you'd know it was a pocket.
These pages are pretty simple. I wanted to be sure to have some spaces for photos that are nearly full-size. You might have to trim a bit around the edges but most people have a certain amount of space around their photos that can easily be trimmed and not affect the photo.
How cute is this? Little arrows make such cute page accents. If you add a picture to the mat on the right side, you should be able to slip it right under that embellishment. I left the edge undone so that you could do so. This page would also be great for journalling on.
Here's another one of those overlay pockets. You can see the ink around the edges of it again. I love inking my stuff. You can see that I've inked around the edge of every page as well as around every mat and embellishment. To me, it just finishes the project. If you don't like black ink on your bright colours, try using inks that are the same colour families. Adding a darker green to a green edge won't stand out as much as the black does but it would still give you that finished appearance. My ink of choice these days is Tim Holt Distress Ink in Black Soot. (By the way, I do have a few reinkers too for those who have distress inks that are getting dried out.) If you are looking for inks at any time, let me know. I'd be happy to order the colours you like if I don't have what you want.
You could make a book like this out of any papers. If you're a paper hoarder this is a great way to use up some of those papers you have. I stock chipboard in kraft (brown cupboard) and black and it makes excellent covers.
Be sure to post your comments. I'd love to hear what you think.

I was planning to come to pizza crop on friday, but my car broke down in the States Friday morning and I didn't get it back until after 6 p.m., so by the time I got home it was way too late and i was exhausted. Love the book! have a great weekend at the "Relay for Life and" see you when you get back.

So adorable! I haven't been in because I live in Ohio, but I'll be there in July. Can't wait, maybe I can bring some stuff with me to scrap there. :) Busy working on Father's Day, graduation, wedding & birthday cards right now, oh and a wedding/honeymoon scrapbook.
