Last Wednesday we were making flowers at The Scrapbook Room.
We started out with flowers from organza fabric. We cut material into petal shapes in varying sizes, slightly melted the edges (very carefully!) over a candle flame, then glued the inner edges to a small circle. They were finished off with little pearl beads in the center.
Then we used the Score Board to make some scored flowers. I love these! So cute! Again, the trick is having a punched out circle for the bottom to glue onto as you shape and then another to adhere to the top.
Other flowers were simply torn out of paper into flower shapes. They are more rustic but look great--especially for anyone who loves the distressed or shabby look. (I do!!!)
Other paper flowers are simply hand-torn circles in varying sizes, stacked on top of each other. Be sure to ink the edges for extra effect. Or punch circles and slit tiny 1/8" or so cuts all around for a fringed effect. Again, do a little roughing up (gently though!) and inking for added effects.
Then we started getting inventive. We took the double sided tape, adhered it to various materials like the organza, lace, and strips of paper then we started gathering it around a small punched circle, shaping as we went. Very, very cool.
All in all it was a fun night and everyone realized just how easy it can be to embellish pages even when you don't have a packaged product on hand! Plus, you can make your accents to match the paper you're using.
These are especially cool for album covers, themed pages and anything else!
And here's a video where you can get a peek at some of the creations. Enjoy! I haven't quite figured out how to add words on top of the video.
If I could have added words, I would have said things like "sorry for going a little fast," "the scoreboard was showing what I used for the accordian flowers," "look at how fat my hands look!" etc. but I couldn't so you'll just have to make your own comments.
While you're at it, why not comment on this post by telling me what you use on your pages when you don't have a ready-made product!
Till next time,
Pauline
